Blog Editor Introductory Tutorial

The purpose of this audio tutorial is to brief you on Best25Blogs and the Blog Editor Opportunity.

Best25Blogs is a daily listing of the best blog entries that are submitted by the CROWD and selected by blog editors. After the blog editor identifies the best blog entries that have been submitted by the crowd, they create the teasers and partial summaries and post them on the site under the appropriate topic category.

Once a blog summary is published in the site, the crowd gets to enjoy reading it, voting on it and visiting the actual blog site if they want to. Periodically we will choose winning blogs. The first viewer to click on the winner icon wins a $25 gift card for themselves, the person that submitted the blog and the blogger that wrote it.

The service works on a "Crowdsourcing" business model which means that we invite everyone to participate in the process of submitting and rating great blog entries.

Best25Blogs and its sister sites (paymetoblogabouryou.com & specialoffersbulletinboard.org) were  created to accomplish the following things-

Thinking inside the Box

It all begins with the Best25Blogs Submission Box. This is what empowers blog readers to engage in the process. This is how blog readers submit a blog that they think is exceptional... for any reason.

The submission process is very simple. The box is hosted on our website for anyone to use... No pass codes required... no fees, no registration, no membership hoops to jump through.

Bloggers are welcome to host the box on their sites as a subtle reminder to their readers.... hint.. hint..

When a blog submitter finds a great blog they want to submit, they simply choose the appropriate topic in the drop down menu, type or paste the blog site name & URL, paste the blog article in the text box, enter their first name and email address and submit!

The blog article is then transferred into the online management center for you to evaluate. As the Blog Editor, you will quickly scan the new submissions each day and identify the best ones. You will either publish or delete each submission.

Q  What motivates people to submit blogs?
A  Some people are motivated by the principle of reciprocity, they are grateful for the content the blogger produces and they want to reward them. Others are hoping to win a $25 gift card... more on that later..

Q  What prevents a blogger from cheating and submitting an entry from their own site?
A  We don't really consider that to be cheating... nor is there anything wrong with it. If the entry really is among the best for that topic at that period of time, the editor will post it. Self promotion is what the blogosphere is all about!

As the Blog Editor for a specific topic, you will have access to an online management area that we provide for you to review the submissions that people have sent. You will identify the best blog submissions and publish on the website. You will delete the other submissions. When you find a good entry that you want to publish, you will use three text boxes to-

a) Create a Header
b) Create a Teaser
c) Create a Partial Summary

Lets take a quick look at how the website works beginning with the main page. Please notice the following things in screen-print #1 below-

Ok... lets take a quick look at how the online management system looks. In screen-shot #1 above, in the Business/Finance column there is a teaser about the employee that got disciplined for blogging.. In screen-shot #2 below you will see how that was created in the management system

You will notice that there are three text boxes. The first box is for creating the headline, the second box is for creating he short teaser that shows up on the main page and the third box is creating the "partial summary" that is shown in the topic page.

Screen-print #2 Online Management Area

Notice that the entire text that is submitted via the blog submission box is automatically inserted into that third text box. When you, the blog editor view the entry and decide to edit the blog instead of delete it, you will use the text in the third box (titled "text") to do your editing and then copy and paste what you want for the header into the first box, the teaser into the second box and the "Partial Summary" is placed in the third text box.

In the sample above the third box titled "Text" originally had three long paragraphs from the blog in it because that is what the submitter had copied and pasted into the submission box. What you see in the text bog now is what it looked like after I finished editing it.

Now lets see what the Topic page looks like. In screen-shot #3 below you will see how the listing of the best 25 blogs for that topic are listing in a two column format. At the top of the topic page there is a link that enables viewers to learn more about YOU.... the blog editor. It can either take them directly to your personal blog or to a sub page telling them about you (which can include links your blogs, websites, articles you written, etc. this is a great way to drive people to your personal blog, position yourself as an expert and grow your readership.)

The topic category is listed at the top of the page followed by the listing of the current best 25 blogs for that topic category. Each listing includes

You are welcome to provide some of your own commentary in the teasers and partial summaries if you want to! Just be sure to distiguish between your commentary and the blog entry using quotation marks of the blogger or perhaps brackets for your remarks....

Also please notice the complete listing of most popular blog urls in the left hand column. (more info on audio portion of this tutorial...this listing is based a gross submissions... has nothing to do with how many submissions have been posted)

Screen-print #4 below shows the upper part of the management area. I want to point out that the blog name and url should be verified for accuracy & may be edited by you if you determine they are incorrect.

Also notice a live link that enables you to view the actual blogsite in the event that you want to view the blog entry to verify something or get more content from the blog article, etc.

Screen-print #4 Online Management Area

The online management area for blog editors obviously has more bells and whistles than what I am showing here.... and it will evolve as we get feedback from our blog editors and the crowd.... but our purpose today is to just give you a general idea of how it interfaces with the best25blogs website and how easy it is to use.

In summary the online management area enables you to quickly view all blog submissions and delete the ones you don't like and edit and publish the best ones.

One of the keys to being a great blog editor is....

Don't spill your candy in the lobby!

In other words... don't give them the bottom line of what the blog entry is saying. Tantalize them, make them curious... tease them!

Why? because the whole purpose of this service is to help bloggers get new viewers! We want people to leave our website and visit the blog sites that we list!

We have a very simple three step process.

Step One: Get people to visit the site-
We will accomplish that by getting the crowd to buzz about is in blogs, by getting bloggers to post the submission box on their blogsites and by listing the best25blogs link in each special offers bulletin board

Step Two: Get viewers to click from the main page to the topic page-
When viewers scroll down the main page looking for their favorite topics, you need to make sure you teasers are intriguing. You need to make people curious enough to click to the topic page so that they can get more information about the five teasers. If the teasers are done well, the viewer will also want to see that the other 20 blogs entries are about!

Step Three: Get viewers to visit the actual blog sites-
The "partial summary" needs to give just a little more information than the teaser did, but not much more... Why? Because the ultimate goal of this service is to get the viewer to go visit the actual blog site.

Q&A  (Do you have a question? Send it to best25blogs [at] yahoo dot com. As we get more questions we will post the answers here so check back)

Q   How do I grow the readership for my topic page?
A   Several ways, advertise it on your own blog... continually making references to interesting content that you are putting on the topic page. Network with other bloggers you know and get them to put a blurb about it on their blogs. Our blog submission box that is being hosted on various blog sites will drive traffic to our main page and then readers will find the topics they are interested in.

Q   What kind of advertisers should I go after?
A   Although you are welcome to use Google adwords and other pay-per-click programs, we strongly suggest that you identify national corporations that would be interested in being sponsors.

Q   What is the cost of getting the licensing rights for a topic page and what is the revenue split?
A   If you are chosen to be a blog editor, the set up fee is $95 and the monthly fee is $9. You split the advertising revenue based on a 60/40 split if you acquire the advertiser. 60% for the Blog Editor, 40% is paid to us. If we acquire the advertiser, we get 60% and you get 40%.

Q  What is the income potential?
A  That depends entirely on you, how good an editor you are, how large your can grow the readership of your topic page and how good you are at getting corporate sponsors. We feel that after the program matures, a good topic page should be able to attract at least 5 corporate sponsors paying $500 per month each but this is a new concept and there are no guarantees.

Q  What if the topic I want is taken, or the rights for the topic I am interested in are taken? Do you have any other types of Blog Editor Opportunities or other income opportunities?
A  In a few months we will be launching another service that will be an extension of  best25blogs. It will focuse on promoting LOCAL BLOGGERS according to the towns and cities that we publish the Special Offers Bulletin Board in. Each community will have its own site that will promote the bloggers in the town or city. The rights to each BestLocalBloggers site will be given to the Crowd Coordinator for each community. To see how the Special Offers Bulletin Board promotes local bloggers click here. To learn more about the Crowd Coordinator opportunity click here.

Q  What is the legal relationship between the Blog Editor and Best25Blogs?
You are not an employee... you are an independent contractor... a strategic partner that is responsible for acquiring your own advertising clientele.
